Covid-19: a university under lockdown

On March 23rd 2020, Boris Johnson announced the first national lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To mark the first anniversary of this occasion the University of Oxford created Lockdown 2020.

Lockdown 2020 documents the extraordinary events of the pandemic and invites staff and students from the University of Oxford to contribute their pictures, videos, stories and reflections to this online archive.

The University has very generously allowed the City Stories archive to exhibit some of the Lockdown 2020 items- particularly those which illustrate the experience of Oxford residents.

Users of the Lockdown 2020 collection have used the digital archive to:

  • Share their reactions to the events of the past year
  • Describe a typical day in their lockdown life
  • Explain what their 'new normal' during the pandemic was like
  • Provide a message to the future

For more information visit the Lockdown 2020 website.
