Covid-19: Life moves online
During Lockdown, people were unable to socialise with anyone from outside of their own household. This meant that many activities that would normally take place in person moved online.
From online schooling, to virtual birthday parties, clubs, meetings, celebrations, socialising, people had to embrace technology. New and existing companies providing online services flourished.
Most live performances were cancelled, but some groups were able to practice together and perform online. With people, especially the elderly, staying indoors more, fitness suffered and exercise classes were provided.
Many business and other organisations, such as markets and religious organisations, had to make major changes in order to continue to operate during lockdown. Most shops closed and people switched to shopping online so high street retailers had to rapidly provide online service to survive.
Many people found it very difficult to be unable to socialise in person and those who lacked access to technology were further marginalised.
Loneliness and worry caused the mental health of many to suffer. Charities such as Oxfordshire Mind provided online services for relaxation and meditation.
