Title
Poster for the first ever public gig by The Jennifers
Description
This poster was for a gig that I put on at the Jericho Tavern for my 6th form band Sticky Fingers. Sticky Fingers was a fairly run of the mill covers band, but we had started to produce some of our own material by the time of this gig, and weren't bad. We had a good following, made up mainly of our mates. What is more interesting about this poster is that it is for the first ever public gig by The Jennifers, who went on to become Supergrass. I was friends with a couple of schools mates of Danny Goffey and Gaz Coombes, who told me about The Jennifers and urged me to put them on as support. They were all about 15 years old but already had the superstar swagger that marked them out as a success just waiting to happen. Andy Bell from Ride was in the audience, coming especially to see them. They blew us off the stage and when we tried to book them to support us again a couple of months later, Danny said to me something along the lines of 'We're hanging out with Ride now, so things are a bit different'. He was right.
