Stained Glass Window in Leiden
Twin cities
Ian Smith, Roel Dragt and Beryl Craig with the stained glass window they unveiled in Leiden for the 60th-anniversary celebrations. The window was a gift from Oxford. Oxford received a gift of a stained glass window in return, which is installed at Oxford Town Hall. Beryl and Ian were part of the first athletics team to visit Leiden in 1946 and Roel Dragt was a member of an early Leiden water-polo squad. 65 people from Oxford took part in the trip to Leiden for the celebrations.

The Bury Knowle Park Snake
The Covid-19 Pandemic and Oxford
Bury Knowle is a park located off of London Road in Headington. If you are lucky enough to take a socially distant trip there during lockdown you might find the Bury Knowle Park Snake. Started by Oxford Rocks UK, the snake is (currently) made up of over 300 lovingly hand painted rocks! Some rocks give thanks to "our NHS heroes" and others bear supportive messages such as "there's always a rainbow after a storm."
At the front of the line lies a rock painted as the head of the snake along with a sign which states "be a giver, not a taker" and encourages residents to add to the Covid-19 snake by bringing their own painted rocks and pebbles.

The photographs belong to Tony Gillie and Roger Christiansen.
The Bury Knowle Snake was started by Claire Waldron and #OxfordRocksUK.
Nic Vickery's "Gracie Fields" Portrait
International Conflict
"'Gracie Fields' was inspired by that fantastic band of ladies who worked through both World Wars, known as the Women's Land Army. I have a cherished photo of my Gran, 'Kitty', taken in 1917 in her 1st World War Land Army uniform. Although my Gracie may be in 1940s garb, she stands for a generation that faced life and an ever changing reality with determination and fortitude. Arts at the Old Fire Station Appeals for Donations to their Coronavirus Emergency Fund (Updated)
The Covid-19 Pandemic and Oxford
Arts at the Old Fire Station is an arts centre in the middle of Oxford. They are a theatre, gallery, shop and studio. What makes them different is that they share their building with the homeless charity Crisis. They are uniquely placed to be able to include people facing tough times in the running of the arts centre.

Although AOFS will be able to survive in the short term, their future position is uncertain. The organisation needs the public's help to ensure that they are able to open again when the lockdown ends. So, they are asking for donations to their Coronavirus emergency fund.

Their fundraiser can be found at: https://oldfirestation.org.uk/coronavirus-emergency-fund/

Although their bulding is closed, AOFS is still very much up and running. The organisation continues to support the Oxford community, make plans for the future and foster a creative space. A few examples of this include:

Diverting members of their team to support the volunteers at the Oxford Hub, Oxford Together and Oxford City Council.

Planning future events such as their ICON tour, new stock lines and alternative ways of producing their Christmas show.

Offering new ways to engage with their creative work (their new page Arts at a Safe Distance can be found here).

Arts at the Old Fire Station has committed to helping Oxford recover from this pandemic by bringing people of all backgrounds together to learn, celebrate, share and create.

More examples of the organisation's work can be found on their website.
