Description
An account of the resource

About a day

A typical day begins with waking up, not much of a change. However now I do not need an alarm, my body is free to wake up naturally without a loud penetrating noise. I do my work when I want and how I want. I enjoy the company of myself and my family. I learn new skills and new things about myself. As a whole these kickdown days are teaching me more about the world and my life than I got to learn when I was out. This is the longest I've ever spent isolated from the world yet surprisingly (or possibly not) the most relaxed I've ever been. So like any other typical lock down day, it consists of me talking to myself, a lot. A bit like I am doing right now. But hey, it's a hell of a lot more fun than anyone else I've ever spoken to.

Message to the future

I hope my future self recognises and truly appreciates the new skills and philosophies I have learnt during this quarantine as a teenager. Sorry for not doing school work but I mean school was not open so what did you expect. Anyway hope you're having a blast and I really hope whatever you are doing you enjoy it and are happy. I look forward from hearing back from you. And remember if no one else loves you, I do.

By Sabrina

Arts at the Old Fire Station Appeals for Donations to their Coronavirus Emergency Fund (Updated)
Subject
The topic of the resource
The Covid-19 Pandemic and Oxford
Description
An account of the resource
Arts at the Old Fire Station is an arts centre in the middle of Oxford. They are a theatre, gallery, shop and studio. What makes them different is that they share their building with the homeless charity Crisis. They are uniquely placed to be able to include people facing tough times in the running of the arts centre.

Although AOFS will be able to survive in the short term, their future position is uncertain. The organisation needs the public's help to ensure that they are able to open again when the lockdown ends. So, they are asking for donations to their Coronavirus emergency fund.

Their fundraiser can be found at: https://oldfirestation.org.uk/coronavirus-emergency-fund/

Although their bulding is closed, AOFS is still very much up and running. The organisation continues to support the Oxford community, make plans for the future and foster a creative space. A few examples of this include:

Diverting members of their team to support the volunteers at the Oxford Hub, Oxford Together and Oxford City Council.

Planning future events such as their ICON tour, new stock lines and alternative ways of producing their Christmas show.

Offering new ways to engage with their creative work (their new page Arts at a Safe Distance can be found here).

Arts at the Old Fire Station has committed to helping Oxford recover from this pandemic by bringing people of all backgrounds together to learn, celebrate, share and create.

More examples of the organisation's work can be found on their website.

Description
An account of the resource
With so many events cancelled or restricted for the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of VE Day on the 8th May, we wanted to come up with a way for people across Oxfordshire to mark the occasion, express their pride in our country and to remember and honour the men and women of WW2. So we are inviting people to get creative and make their own special ‘Great British Bunting’ to hang in their windows. Bunting can be decorated with pictures of soldiers who fought on the frontline or those who worked on the Homefront. Or you could draw a poppy to commemorate the fallen, a dove to celebrate lasting peace or a rainbow to symbolise hope. All the guidance and inspiration you need to make your bunting from whatever you have at home can be found at bbc.co.uk/makeadifference.

We’re asking people to send us their pictures and to tag us (@BBCOxford) in their social media as well as using the hashtags #GreatBritishBunting and #VEDay75 so that all the effort people put in can be shared far and wide. We’d also love anyone to get in touch with us to share their family stories of VE Day via social media or makeadifferenceoxfordshire@bbc.co.uk.

"So we had Mother's Day, our Wedding Anniversary and my husband's birthday all in the space of 3 days last week! The photo is of my husband's online birthday party. We obviously couldn't celebrate as we'd intended but it was great to see family and friends online, and we also are lucky to have a daughter who loves baking, so weren't short of cake! I can't believe that 3 weeks ago I'd never heard of Zoom...."

Celebrating and sharing local community stories
Description
An account of the resource
Barton Locality Hub is one of five response hubs set up by Oxford City Council and Oxford Hub to provide urgent support to residents with unmet needs during the COVID-19 pandemic. At Barton Locality Hub, the team have joined together with our local partners across Barton, Headington, Risinghurst and Sandhills to share important information and 'good news' stories in our weekly newsletter. We're lucky to have such active community groups and residents, and the newsletter is a great way to showcase the fantastic work that they're doing in our communities! This is our inaugural newsletter, first distributed on 24 April 2020.

Clap for Carers: a community united

The Covid-19 Pandemic and Oxford
Description
An account of the resource
We live in a small community of students and their spouses. I only learnt one of our neighbours' partner is a Doctor because the virus meant we were making sure everyone was looked after and could get in touch if they needed anything.
At 8pm we left our dinner and went outside to join the chorus of clapping, cheering, drums and whistles to honour and show support for our NHS heros and key workers who are taking risks and making huge sacrifices to help us all in this time of unprecedented crisis.
I looked up to see my neighbour clapping with us too. She took pictures as well - I wonder if it was to show her boyfriend who may well have been at work at the time.
It must be strange being alone in the flat all day waiting for your partner to return from treating sick people, desperately hoping they will be ok and not bring the virus home with them.
